“Under the Pledge, large data center operators — not ratepayers — fund the electricity generation and infrastructure their projects require. Building on pioneering commitments from the nation’s leading tech companies and hyperscalers earlier this year, the Ratepayer Protection Pledge now covers 80% of all power delivered to U.S. homes and businesses and protects 263 million Americans when a data center is built nearby."

“Let me be clear: as governor, I do not support any state-mandated moratorium on building data centers in Wyoming. The job of deciding whether to encourage the building of data centers falls, as it should, on the more than capable shoulders of our local communities within the constraints allowed by the Legislature. As with most development, it is the communities, counties and local boards who do the heavy lifting in economic opportunity. We shouldn’t change that now. I believe, as our Founders did, that government closest to the people has the ability to fiercely protect their own homes and families.

Lost economic opportunities only hurt the communities, workers and families in her state that would benefit from the tax revenues and the jobs brought by these companies — while compromising our nation’s security and leadership."

“The United States cannot prevail in the next era of military competition with assumptions about data infrastructure from the 20th century. Data is no longer merely a tool of commerce. It is a strategic asset. Nearly every function in the military depends on the ability to store, move, process, secure and exploit vast quantities of data at speed and scale. A nation that cannot store and process data will not deter — nor, if necessary, defeat — a peer adversary.

Many communities are understandably worried that data centers are increasing electricity costs, water use, carbon emissions and noise. Opposition to their construction has become a bipartisan issue. But if the nation is to dominate the development of artificial intelligence, autonomous operations or the future of intelligence gathering, it needs the physical infrastructure.”
